What Happens After I Graduate From School?

Endeavour Foundation

A question many school-leavers and their families often ask us here at Endeavour Foundation is, “What happens after school?”

For graduates with an intellectual disability, there are many options to choose from. The NDIS has brought with it a whole new world of funding and support, and there are plenty of exciting pathways available – especially for this group.

Here are two pathways for school-leavers with a disability:

1. “I want to go somewhere where I can keep learning, get out in to the community and make friends!”

Even though your schooling is finished, it doesn’t mean that the learning and social aspects of it should stop. Many people want to continue learning, but in a supportive environment that understands your goals and the importance of getting out into the community.

The activities available at Endeavour Foundation’s Learning and Lifestyle hubs are designed to help you identify and reach your goals for daily living, community participation, learning and building relationships, all the while having fun.

2. “I want to get a job in a supportive environment!”

Employment can boost your confidence and self-esteem; it connects you with your community and can give you a strong sense of purpose. We believe that employment opportunities are a critical part of an inclusive and empowering community for people with disability. That’s why we offer supported employment.

Supported employment is a safe, supportive and social work environment, where people work with you to help you achieve the goals you set yourself.
